Arctic Mittens worn by Derek Wright during Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition (1955-1958).
Pair of suede and khaki canvas gloves. Palm of mittens are suede, back of hands are an Alpaca pile, wrists are a cotton khaki with buckle for tightening at wrist and around forearm, domes around the wrist for attachment of removable wool and nylon liner, which also has domes around wrist. Printed in black inside wrist is " L / MITTENS, ARCTIC, M-1949 / N383S-69309 MIL-M-834A / MFG. 1952, LINER 60% WOOL 40% COTTON / BACK 55% Alpaca 45% COTTON / KING MANUFACTURING COMPANY, INC.". Gloves attached to each other with green lace. "WRIGHT" hand-written on both gloves.
