Description
Badge and case part of the Office of the Order of the Southern Cross, presented to Jean Batten in 1935 by the Brazilian government.

Circular gold metal badge with small loop at rear. Front is enamelled blue with a woman's head in the centre in gold with gold text "REPÚBLICA DOS ESTADOS UNIDOS DO BRAZIL"'.
Stored in green vinyl covered wooden box with hinged lid. Gold border on top of case with star motif for order featuring text "ESTADOS UNIDOS DO BRASIL / 15 DO NOVEMBRO DE 1889". Interior has a cream satin lining with royal blue velvet padding. Black logo for manufacturer stamped on satin lining "joalheria / la royale / av rio branco 140 / rio de janeiro".
