Description
A first-hand account by John Cranwell. First mentions Lancaster bomber pilot dying in a raid over France with the rear air-gunner flying back to base. Mentions this event in a newspaper article in the Dominion. Goes on to discuss an RAF Lancaster visiting Whenuapai in 1944. Recalls being on station when the plane was departing. Mentions personnel lined up to witness the departure when the plane came off the runway headed for the number 2 hangar. Mentions the pilot recovering the situation then hitting into a concrete apron with the port wing swinging inside the hangar. Finishes by saying he heard the port wing later [jarred?] on top of the CO's [Commanding Officer] car and flattened it.
