(Age 28yrs then) / Passed all his qualifications as Radio [Amature] + [unknown, unknown] / he was active on the air for 50 yrs / Then, after Jackson's Bay, volunteered as Leading Telegraphist at the break-out of war, on the [HMS] 'Archilles', then when he was [unknown], later became Radio Superintendent at Rarotonga was working in the Islands for twenty years" -written by unknown on verso of mount.
