Description
Radiuscope [Magnon]. A light grey metal scope (similar to a microscope) with an eyepiece, dial and adjustable knobs. There is a label under the eyepiece which reads “02 FLAT / 7.25 = 7.83". To the left of the central arm is a black cylindrical attachment. There is also a dial with “MAGNON / 0.01-20mm / Mitutoyo / MADE IN JAPAN”. There is a dial in increments of 10 measuring from 0 to 90 and a smaller dial in the centre with increments of 1 measuring from 0 to 9. Under the lens there is a black disc-shaped stage with a gold coloured rim under the lens. This holds a cylindrical area to house a contact lens mount with “7.48” printed in white. “HIRSTLENS” is hand-engraved on the side. This is currently taped down. The radiuscope has a rectangular base with a silver dial in the centre with a black adjustable knob with increments of .5 from 4.5 to 7.5. On the front of the base is a metal plate “MAGNON” and at the rear is a maker’s plate, “RADIUSGUAGE / MODEL NO - 1500 / SERIAL 10007 / PRIMARY V. 240 AC 30 VA / SEC. V 4.5 to7.5 V / MADE IN JAPAN”. There is a black button to the right of the base. There is a plug with a grey cable attached at the back of the base.
Radiuscopes were used widely in all contact lens labs to measure the posterior surface of the contact lens. They are also used by eyecare professionals to check the fit of the contact lens.
