Description
A small black octagonal hinged box with a blue and purple lined interior. The lenses were originally all housed inside. This is a collection of eighteen PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate) sample contact lenses. The lenses are various sizes. Parts 2 to 5 are larger lenses, dated to circa 1960. They each have a small hole drilled near the edge. This is called fenestration, which allows oxygen to enter the eye and allows better tear exchange - making the contact lens safer and more comfortable to wear. Parts 3 to 5 have a flat section in the centre. Part 6 is a small grey tinted lens. Parts 7 to 19 are smaller contact lenses, dated to circa 1968. Each lens has a number printed on the edge.
