The item is mounted on a circular metal base with two notches – presumably to attach the object to the rest of the lathe. There is a short cylinder on top of this with an oblong piece of flat metal with rounded edges which crosses the diameter of the cylinder. There is a screw in the centre which allows the item to rotate. There is an arch-shaped piece of metal which is affixed to the rectangular piece with two screws. It holds a horizontal steel cylinder inside with a screw. This cylinder has a sharp attachment, used to shape the anterior surface of the haptic contact lens. There is a rod to one side which presumably is a handle to turn the mechanism.
