A rectangular hinged-lid box with a singular metal clasp at the front. The box has an egg-shell coloured covering. “HIRST MICRO LENS / TRIAL SET” is stamped in gold in the centre of the lid. “Bi-Curve” is printed in black at the bottom right. On the underside of the box is a yellow and black label in the top left. The printed text reads “DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHOLOGY / DO NOT USE / WITHOUT INSTRUCTIONS”. Below there is another label, this is blue and white. The label is partially torn off. Handwritten in blue is “m 2 / Drawer 1”.
Inside is a plastic tray with four rows of circular holes that contain contact lenses. Each hole has a different number allocated to it. The numbers are arranged sequentially from 7.2 to 8.8. There is a total of 11 contact lenses. There is a rubber suction tool at the bottom left in a long oval shape. There is an empty space for a second tool on the right. There is a hand-written card in the box which reads “Bi Curve fitting / Set – 1963”. There is second piece of card with printed green text which is titled “BI CURVE TRIAL SET”. There are four lists titled “Base / Curve, Secondary / Curve, Optic / Dia., O.A. Dia”.
