Description
This set shows the six-step process needed for the manufacture of a Rigid Gas Permeable (RGP) contact lens. The objects are housed in a rectangular polystyrene casing with six separate compartments inside.
Each object shows a stage in the process:
1 - The raw material, a blue disc with the number “4141” in white on one side.
2 - Raw material that has been lathe cut on the posterior back surface.
3 – Showing the polished posterior back surface.
4 - A semi-finished blank that has been mounted on a chuck for the anterior surface to be cut (this has separated from its mount)
5 - Showing the lathe cut and polished anterior surface with the lens mounted on a chuck.
6 - The finished lens held in a plastic container.
