Description
Computer Monitor - Model ADM-3A. This is a type of video display terminal (VDT). The monitor has a ‘clamshell’ casing, with dark beige on the top and dark brown on the bottom half. It is hinged at the back. The casing is Bakelite with a textured finish. The display screen is at the front in the centre. Below this is a paper label which is handwritten in black and reads “Work order # 7472 (B767) / T55 - Use Half Duplex / FDF - Use Full Duplex”. There is a circular button to the right above the keyboard. Qwerty keyboard, black keys with white text. There are some additional keys at the right of the keyboard, ‘LINE FEED / HERE IS / RUB / BREAK / REPEAT / CLEAR”. To the left of the keyboard is a metal panel which is set within a recess. This houses a DIP (dual in-line package) switch. This would originally have had a covering which is now lost. The switches are slide-style, with a blue casing. These switches can be turned off and on and have numbers on the left. The text reads “BIT 8-0 / PARITY -/ STOP – 1 / DATA 2 […]”. There are oval stickers on either side of the monitor. On the proper left there is a sticker with a black background and four plane windows with a view of a runway. It reads “It’s a point of view / you can’t ignore! / WIDE”. On the proper right is a yellow oval sticker with a cartoon helicopter illustration. “A step / closer / to / reality / REDIFFUSION / Simulation”.
At the back of the object are two hinges that connect the two casing parts. Between the hinges are two ports. Below this is a label which reads “MODEM EXTENSION / MODEL ADM 3A / SERIAL NO. / 513514 / MODIFY PER A3ABE00 / PART NO. 131531 / LEAR SIEGLER, INC. / DATA PRODUCTS DIV. / ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA / MADE IN U.S.A.” On the left is a recess with a small label “FUSE .4 AMP SLO-BLO / ON POWER OFF / 230V 50/60Hz .4 AMP”. A white switch and a grey power cord are attached to the top edge. On the right is another recess with a black screw on cap. A label reads “FUSE .4 AMP SLO-BLO”. The power cord has a black three-pronged plug, with embossed text around the top, “MADE IN N.Z. 250 V. ENZIDE / CAT. 98 /10 AMP”. On the base of the plug is “IMPORTANT / REPLACE / THIS CAP / 2057 / NZS / 93”.
