Description
Tape Drive Unit. [Model 9914R]. Large rectangular machine made from plastic and metal. The unit is encased on sides and back with metal, attached with screws. The front panel of the object is light grey coloured plastic, with a diagonal recess with a grey horizontal line. At the top, off-centre to the left is a tape loading door, with a clear plastic viewing panel in the middle. There is a digital control panel to the lower right side which has 5 buttons below a display screen. They read “DIAG”, “LD / ONL / tens” “RWD/UNL / units”, “RESET / run/stop”, “DENSITY / enter”. Below this along the bottom edge of the object is a yellow label which reads “SET TO 1600”, and to the right is a black power switch. This front panel is loose, but it is attached to the main unit at the right by a multi-coloured ribbon cable and various wires attached in several places. The ribbon cable is attached to a green circuit board. There are two turntables on the top of the main unit. One is a semicircle at the front, with the loading door, and there is a circular turntable at the rear. There is a clear Perspex cover which protects these items. It is attached by two hinges at the back, and there are three black plastic knobs which fasten the cover in place. There are two air vents at the back. There is a channel to the right of the turntables. In the centre of the channel is a rectangular component with a label which reads “A M Belgium n.v. / 278086/SN 25428”.
On the back panel of the object are two metal plates at the top left, both blank. Below this are several labels. Starting at the far left, the top label reads “StorageTek M4 Data / 9914-842-22-458-5 / MODEL 9914R / SER. NO. 4694 […] / Data Processing Equipment Electronic […] / Storage Technology Manufacturing Ltd / Lyon Way, Frimley Road, Camberley, Surrey, England. GU16 5ET DP”. The second label reads “THIS EQUIPMENT complies with the / requirements in Part 15 of FCC Rules / for a class A computing device. Operation of this equipment in a / residential area may cause unaccept- / able interference to radio & T.V. / reception causing the operator to / take whatever steps are necessary to correct the interference.” There is a yellow label below this, “CAUTION / WEIGHT EXCEEDS / 25 KG”. There are two white labels which read “P.L. No. 121594/10 / BATCH No. F.” and “ASSY STATE […]”. There is a circular label, “7075 / 3 – 20 – 2009”. To the right is a small with a barcode “7026”, and a large label with a grid of numbers titled “MACHINE TYPE: SERIAL NUMBER:”. To the right of this is a metal plate which reads “XEROX MADE IN ENGLAND / SER # 5HO 253055 / Multinational # 155 253055 8”. At the bottom of the unit, there are two ports with black labels above. Which read “50 P1 1”, and “50 P2 1”. To the right of this is another port with two metal prongs, with a label which reads “TERMINATOR / POWER”. At the top right corner is a small yellow label with an exclamation mark symbol and a book symbol. Below this are three labels above a socket, which read “OBJECT LEVEL”, “CAUTION / MAINS SUPPLY / FOR COMPLETE / ISOLATION REMOVE / MAINS SUPPLY”, and “FS1 / 200-240V T2A / 100- 120V T4A”. The mains supply has a hexagonal plastic border, with a small label which reads “220Vac”. To the left are two white labels, “TESTED / DATE 10 / 11 / 91 INITIALS / MJ”, “INSPECTED BY: / A. APPS DATE 13/11/91”.
