Description
"Once upon a time, not so long ago, rail ruled and steam was king... This program features the glory machines of the steel road in the last two decades of operation in New Zealand. Predominant are the mainline 8-coupled heavy-weights, the J, JA and KA classes as well as the general purpose AB pacifics and WW tank classes. See working around New Zealand, both passenger and goods trains, as well as yard scenes of train composition, refuelling and maintenance. As an added bonus there is previously unseen footage of the Tangiwai disaster of 24 December 1953. A general introduction to steam locomotive development in New Zealand completes this documentation of steam railways as they were in this country." - back cover
