Includes hints to motorists, government tourism bureaux and resorts, tour routes with maps, places en route, miles between, road surfaces and general descriptions, and advertisements.

"In planning the lay-out... the rule has been followed to give first of all the main East and West Coast through routes between Auckland and Wellington. Then to describe central routes, between these extremities, converging on the National Park District.The connecting links between these central routes, and the East and West Coast Routes - from Te Kuiti, Wanganui and Bulls, Rotorua, Napier, Taupo, Taihape Palmerston and Woodville will be found in their respective Sections." - preface
