Description
Manual 10 line telephone exchange. This is the original manual exchange from Waihau Bay, Bay of Plenty. Consists of a switchboard with 20 sockets (one pair per line), 10 connectors along the top covered by metal hinging covers, and four toggle switches (light green; grey; dark green; red). On the right hand side of the unit is a small crank handle. The unit is housed in a wooden box case with rectangular base panel. Through the base panel are eight holes through which the connecting cables are fed. The cables have large single pin jacks at the ends (some missing), the complete cables also feed through a small weighted pulley system. There is one pulley currently attached and seven loose ones. The entire wooden case is designed to attach to a vertical surface, there is a small hook latch on top which can be released to open the box case hinging from the left.
