Audio Cassette. Features the single Chains by DLT featuring Che Fu. Cassette tape made from tinted brown plastic, with white text and black plastic reels. Along the top edge of the tape is a number stamped in the centre in purple, “9072B5”.
Part 1: Cassette. Side 1: “[DLT featuring CHE FU] / CHAINS / 1 CHAINS (RADIO EDIT) / 2 CHAINS (ALBUM MIX) / 3 CHAINS (REMIX).” Underneath this on the left of the tape is an RCA logo and beneath that is “BMG / NEW ZEALAND LTD”. Brief History
Magnetic tape recording technology was developed in Germany in the 1930s and was largely unknown to the rest of the world until the end of the Second World War. Built on previous types of reel-to-reel magnetic recording (e.g. steel tape or wire), the success of this technology rested on determining a method for fixing a magnetic compound onto or within a plastic polymer tape. After the war, the technology was refined and became more compact and accessible with the RCA tape cartridge released in 1958. The cartridge housed the tape entirely within a plastic casing allowing for much simpler handling. This was soon replaced by the compact tape cassette released by Philips in 1963 and became the standard medium for audio tape recording.
