Brief History
This radiogram is an example of the large furniture style radios that became popular in the early-mid 20th century. These items filled the role many people now use televisions for, a large entertainment console for use in the living room. This unit was manufactured by Radio Corporation of New Zealand and carries one of their Columbus branded radios, model 44, offering both Shortwave and AM Broadcast reception.
Radio Corporation NZ was a Wellington-based publicly owned company which manufactured and sold radios, gramophones, radiograms etc across New Zealand in their “Columbus Radio Centre” branded retail stores.
