Description
Flat face Shield by ShieldsUp, to be attached to a frame.

Unused shield made from a transparent, laser cut plastic. The shield is square in shape with curved edges. Four holes line the top of the shield. A white piece of protective plastic layering covers the front, which has green text, "I.P.B / PLASTIC SHEET EXTRUS[...]". The reverse has a transparent protective layer.
Brief History
Face shields were manufactured throughout New Zealand in 2020 in response to the Level 4 lockdown from 26 March to 28 April 2020, a result of the global Covid-19 pandemic. The shields were made on 3-D printers using an open-source code developed and supplied by Prusa Research (https://www.prusa3d.com/covid19/). Following on from successful community calls throughout Europe, Tim Carr from MindKits initiated a call to 3-D printers throughout New Zealand which resulted in a positive groundswell of interest and action.
The national call for interest was made on 27 March 2020 and within three days a communication group was coordinated using Slack. By day eight country-wide logistics and distribution networks were established. Using stocks to hand, individuals and maker groups worked to produce shields for use by front line workers.
