Brief History
The Sega Master System was an 8-bit game console, launched in New Zealand in the late 1980s. In 1990 it was followed by the 16-bit Mega Drive, known as the Genesis in America.
Sega first released its Sonic the Hedgehog game in 1991. Where the Sega consoles were developed to compete with Nintendo consoles, Sonic was developed to compete with Nintendo’s Mario games series and became Sega’s flagship game series.
