Description

Argo taxi meter in Shillings and Pence. Clockwork, circa 1937. The unit consists of a large metal box. The glass cover is missing. The front panel is black with "Tariff" and "FARE" printed on the front. There is a large brown knob on the front connected via a shaft to a sprocket and chain arrangement at the back. Turning the knob changes the Tariff display on the front panel. On the back is a large cross-spoke winding key for the mechanism. There is a small counter above it. The unit is fixed to a large metal angled bracket with 2 nuts and bolts at the bottom. A long cable emerges from the centre of the base unit.
