Description

Nokia 3315 Mobile Phone.

Part 1: Teal and grey Nokia 3315 mobile phone. “NOKIA” has been printed on the front of the object in black above the glass screen. Below the screen are four buttons with no remaining printed text. Under these, a series of twelve buttons laid out in a grid can be found. These are printed with the numbers from 0-9, special characters, and the full alphabet. At the bottom of the phone there is a charging point.

Inside the phone, on the reverse of the body, “NOKIA” has been engraved. There is a cavity for a battery and a white sticker with “NOKIA / Nokia Corporation / Type NHM-5NY / Model:3315 / MADE IN KOREA / 168 / Code: 0506847 / 351465/30/118417/2” printed in black. There is a shallow slot into which a SIM card can be inserted.

Part 2: Removable teal back panel for Nokia 3315 mobile phone. At the top of the panel there is a grey strip in which “NOKIA” has been printed in black.On the reverse of the back panel, “A7 / C102-1 / DMD 07927 / AB8+PC< / 02” is embossed and “NOKIA” has been engraved.

Part 3: White removable battery for Nokia 3315. Black text is printed on the front to read “NOKIA® / BLC-1 / 3.6 V / RECHARGABLE Li-ion BATTERY. / USE SPECIFIED NOKIA CHARGER ONLY. / MUST BE DISPOSED OF PROPERLY. MAY EXPLODE IF DAMAGED OR DISPOSED / OF IN FIRE. DO NOT SHORT-CIRCUIT. / Li-ion / MADE IN CHINA 067038463563313162”.

Part 4: Black wall charger for Nokia 3315. Wall socket is connected to long charging cable. “CK12T” has been engraved onto the top of the socket. “NOKIA ® / Type: ACP-7A / FWHK / CL.F / N342 / [symbol] / 700mA / 0 98172 / Input: 240V~/ 50Hz/ 21mA/ 5VA / Output: 3.7V/ 355mA/ 1.3VA / CAUTION: / INDOOR / USE ONLY / Made in CHINA / 10333” has been engraved onto the rear of the socket around the two metal prongs.

Brief History

The Nokia 3315, a variant of the company’s hugely popular 3310 phone produced for the Asia-Pacific market, is a basic, sturdy mobile phone of the early 2000s. Customisation was a feature of Nokia’s phones from this era that held great consumer appeal. MOTAT’s Nokia 3315 was gifted to the donor by her parents, who had replaced the phone’s standard grey blue casing with a light grey and teal casing to match her car. The donor purchased additional covers, including Paul Frank and Lord of the Rings covers, also in the MOTAT collection. The user could also compose their own ringtones, and this phone features three ringtones installed by the user; theme tunes to the Harry Potter movies and the tv show Sex and the City, and a ring tone available as an 'Easter egg' on the DVD of the movie Snatch.
