TEAL First Aid Kit.

Part 1: Khaki green satchel made from sturdy textile. The satchel has a flap at the top which extends up over the single pocket and can be secured closed using the two leather straps which have been fixed to the edge of the flap. The straps are attached at either side of the flap facing outwards and have small holes punched into them to accommodate the prong of the buckle. A corresponding buckle attached to the bag with a leather strap is located on the front face of the bag below the strap. A white circle with a red cross has been printed on the front of the bag. At the back, a single carry strap is secured by both ends to the bag. On the strap, there are two metal fixtures which allow for the strap to be adjusted.
Inside the satchel, on the underside of the flap, “AMRY MEDICAL STORE, / 42 VICTORIA STREET / WELLINGTON, C.1” has been printed in black.

Part 2: Brown linen pouch containing field dressing supplies. “FIRST FIELD DRESSING / TO OPEN:- / Outer Cover: / Break thread holding flap. / Inner Waterproof Cover: / Tear apart at the uncemented corner / (indicated by arrow). /CONTENTS: / Two dressings in Waterproof Covers, each / consisting of a gauze pad stitched to a bandage, and / a safety pin. / Directions for Use:- Take the folded ends of the / bandage in each hand, and, keeping the bandage / taut, apply the gauze pad to the wound and fix the / bandage. One dressing to be used for each wound. / In the case of head wounds when respirators have to / be worn, care should be taken to adjust the pad so / that it does not interfere with the fit of the facepiece. / DO NOT HANDLE THE GAUZE OR WOUND / Johnson & Johnson Pty. Part 8: Tourniquet comprised of a sturdy fabric strap with a clawed metal grip attached to one end. A tag is sewn flat against the fabric strip and has red printed writing which reads “CAUTION:- LOOSEN TOURNIQUET EVERY TWENTY MINUTES BUT DO / NOT REMOVE IT. IF BLEEDING DOES NOT BEGIN, LEAVE TOURNIQUET / LOOSELY IN PLACE. IF BLEEDING BEGINS ALLOW TO SPURT THREE / TIMES AND TIGHTEN AGAIN / GUYOT BROS. CO.. INC.. ATTLEBORG, MASS." On the clasp, "GUYOT BROS. / ATTLEBORG, MASS / G” has been engraved.

Part 14: Grey paper packaging for compressed triangular bandages. “COMPRESSED / GREY / TRIANGULAR / BANDAGES / (TWO) / British Made by / GREENHALGH’S PTY. LTD. / 9 Phillip St., Sydney” is printed in navy on the top. On two of the sides, “COMPRESSED / GREY / TRIANGULAR / BANDAGES / (TWO)” is printed.

Part 15: Small circular metal tin. A paper label has been set into the tins lid and “21EA/731 / -24- / BENZADRINE / TABLETS / mgm 5” has been handwritten onto it. The tin is now empty.
Brief History
One first aid kit owned by Tasman Empire Airways Limited Flight Engineer, John Robert Coulson. Coulson assisted with the delivery of the Short Brothers and Harland Limited flying boats into New Zealand during the 1950s. The Walsh Memorial Library hold Coulson's logbook and other ephemeral items relating to his career.
