Description
Wooden rectangular camera with glass and metal lens at front and hinged door to access lens. Viewer on right side of camera and hinged flap at top and hinged flat at back. Both flaps are stuck. Long wooden rectangular slider at base. Camera - wooden hand plate magazine, 'The Rover'. The 'detective' cameras came in many styles and were a result of the popular demand for smaller lighter cameras. They were manufactured in fourdifferent sizes and advertised in 1896 as: "Simplest ever made. Shutter always set - any speed".
Brief History
Cameras such as this one styled as 'detective' refers to their smaller size in comparison with the large studio cameras of the era.
