Description
Motorcycle, a Douglas, Standard MK III. This motorcycle is fitted with a flat twin-cylinder engine that typifies Douglas motorcycles.
Brief History
This Douglas Standard Mk III motorcycle has the well-known flat twin-cylinder engine that typified Douglas motorcycles. The Mark III was released in 1948, following the T35 which came out in 1946. The models were largely the same, but the Mark III was brought out to improve on 'problems' with the frame of the T35. Douglas made 10,000 of this basic design, which was replaced with the famous Douglas 'Dragonfly' in 1954.

The T35 and Mark III were the first models made by Douglas following World War II. The company had been heavily involved in wartime production of equipment such as stationary engines, generator sets and trucks.

In 1956, Douglas made their last motorbike and were taken over by Westinghouse Brake and Signal, makers of braking systems for many of the world's locomotives and trams.
