Description
"Argo" taxi meter. 26 years old. This unit consists of a large metal box with a full glass panel on the front. The fare is marked in Shillings and Pence. There is a large brown bakelite knob on the right which, when turned, changes the TARIFF window indication from STOPPED to FOR HIRE to HIRED. The knob is connected to a drive shaft which is connected to a sprocket and chain drive that connects with a larger wheel behind the meter. On the back is the wind up key and a series of small windows with counters. On the bottom is a large clamp with nuts and bolts to fix on the taxi.
