Description
WWII period "Course and Speed Calculator" (metal and plastic) and rectangular wooden case bearing painted markings: "COURSE & SPEED CALCULATOR / MK IIA SERIAL NO. 431/39 / 6B/120". Maker "H.T.A. (1928) LTD" is Hall Telephone Accessories Ltd.
Case has hinged lid, two hook clasps on front and leather handle. Interior has green felt padding for instrument. Instrument enamelled black and has readings on front and back. On front: "AIR SPEED / M.P.H" marked from 30 to 360 in tens and "AIR SPEED / KNOTS" marked from 30 to 310 in tens. Compass face (0 to 360 degrees and enamelled white) with "PORT DRIFT // STB.D DRIFT". On rear: two scales on face on instrument - "DISTANCE-MILES" - in gradations from 0 to 400, marked as "5/6/7/8/9/10/15/20/30/40/50/60/70/80/90/100/150/200/300/400" - external and "TIME-MINUTES" - in gradations from 5 to 150, marked as 5/6/7/8/9/10/15/20/30/40/50/60/70/80/90/100/150 - internal.
