Description
World War I boots. Knee-high, leather, mid-brown in colour with soft leather gusset in the front on the ankle. Laced in the front from instep to above the ankle. The top 220 mm of the boot is a sleeve of leather with an expanding gusset on the outside top edge, fastened with a metal buckle. Ten pairs of metal eyelets for the laces. Reinforced leather toe cap at the front and at the heel. Black composition toe and heel plates on leather soles. Two webbing loops inside for pulling on and a leather loop at the top centre back of the boot. The right boot contains a pair of metal spurs, with leather straps. The left boot has a piece of metal equipment wedged inside the lower part of the leg.
Brief History
These knee-high boots were part of the uniform worn by Charles Kinsgley (CK) Mills when he joined the Auckland Mounted Rifles Regiment (AMR), a Regiment formed in August 1914 for service in World War One.
