Description
Mitre box and aid for mitring timber. Cast iron, rectangular chassis with 4 cast iron legs with splayed feet. Each foot has a hole drilled in it to anchor the box. There is a wooden cutting board 20 mm thick screwed to the chassis from underneath. On top of the board, at the back, is a metal back support 60 mm high. This supports and secures the timber being cut. Protruding from the chassis frame is a cast iron arc with markings of degrees. These are set at 0 in the middle of the arc with markings of 24, 12, 8, 6, 5, 4 radiating out in descending order on both sides of zero. A metal arm transverses the box underneath the chassis. This arm has a pin which secures the position to the required angle of cutting. There are holes on both ends of the arm for securing the cutting guide. This guide is missing. There is a 9 mm wide gap in the back plate to accommodate the passage of the saw across the timber being cut. The cutting board has 14 saw grooves from usage. The patent number is 8204.
