Description
A circular copper trophy and case. One side depicts a winged figure standing atop of a mountain, the figures arm is raised and is holding a small plane. Below this is an inscription: 'THE SILVER WINGS OF PEACE, HARMON TROPHY'. The other side is inscribed: 'Ligue Internationale des Aviateurs / Jean Batten / As Its / World Champion Aviatrix / For [illegible] / United For Peace / Medaille D'Honneur'.
Case: A rectangular red case with a gold border and initials stamped in gold in the centre "L.I.A.", which stands for the International League of Aviators. There is a small brass clasp at the centre front. Inside is a velvet bed for the medal and a pink ribbon to help lift the medal out of the case.
Brief History
This trophy dates from 1936 when Jean Batten was awarded it directly. In 1935 Jean Batten had shared the award with Amelia Earhart.
