Description
An Order of Companion of the British Empire (C.B.E.) medal with case. This was awarded to Jean Batten in 1936. The medal consists of a crown atop a blue cross. In the centre of the cross is a medallion with a red border and gold centre. Inscribed: 'FOR GOD AND THE EMPIRE'. On the verso is the initials 'GRI'. The medal is suspended from a deep red-purple ribbon.
Case: A rectangular dark purple/brown case with "C.B.E." in gold in the centre and "L" in the bottom left corner. Inside lid is lined with white satin with a crown and "GARRARD & Co. LTD [...]" stamped in black in the centre. The bed is a cream colour. There is a piece of paper inside with instructions for wearing the O.B.E., titled "THE MOST EXCELLENT ORDER OF THE BRITISH EMPIRE."
