Sign [Taxi Stand, Auckland City Council]
Object detail
Accession number

Description
Sign, wooden, kauri. The sign marks a Taxi Zone and is issued under the authority and bi-laws of the Auckland City Council. The sign is rectangular and the edges have been bevelled 15 mm. The sign was originally painted white but most of the paint has washed off or faded. The wording on the sign would appear to have been stencilled on with a black bitumen based paint. The sign reads:
Auckland City Council
TAXI STAND
NO PARKING
BY ORDER.
A hole in the top centre of the board has been counter-sunk and would appear to be the original bolt hole. There are numerous pencil jottings on the face of the sign. These were probably written on the board in the council timber yard. Some of the jottings are in Pounds, Shillings and Pence. A kauri timber batten is nailed to the back of the sign.
