Description
Blue wool worsted, Air Force No.1 tunic. Long-sleeved, short wide lapel, belted waist, skirt bottom with a single vent in the back from the waist belt to the tail of the coat. 5 pockets in the front. Left and right, patch, breast pockets. Left and right large patch hip pockets. A change pocket is between the right breast and right hip pocket. The breast pockets have a central pleat and scalloped button down flaps. These flaps have dome fasteners in each corner. The hip pockets have large, rectangular, button down flaps. The brass buttons are decorated with the eagle, a crown and the letters 'NZ'.
There are few brass buttons down the front facing with 4 matching button holes on the other facing. There are left and right internal pockets in the breast lining. These have cotton/satin flaps with blue plastic buttons. The garment is fully lined with a dark blue cotton/satin fabric. The badge on the left breast is a Bomb Aimer. The medal bar reads the 1939-1945 Star.
There is a fabric flashing on each shoulder. This reads New Zealand. The lettering is yellow/gold on a black background. There are 2 stripes around each sleeve about 80 mm above the cuff. These stripes are black/light blue/black. A 5 mm gap and then black/light blue/black. The belt has 2 loops in the back and is made of the same cloth as the tunic. The belt buckles from the left side. The buckle is rectangular and made of brass, 60 mm wide. The other end of the belt has 3 sets of 2 holes which match the 2 pins in the buckle. The belt holes have all been reinforced around the opening with thread.
