Description
Two leather identification tags on a rope. The tags are circles with a hole punched out at the top. They are made of brown leather and are stamped on each side. One tag is attached to the rope with a knot, the other tag is attached to the rope through the hole at the top. Text label associated with 2004.8 reads: IDENTIFICATION TAGS. These were worn at all times by every member of the service. The fibre disc shown in this pair bore details such as "Name Rank and Number", religion and blood group. Metal discs like this example were issued by the enemy to prisoners of war.
