Description
James 'Fraser' Barrons No.1 Tunic RNZAF. Blue tunic, wool, skirt-waisted with denim cotton lining. The lining in the body of the garment is grey-blue denim. The lining in the sleeves is cream. The collar has short, wide lapels. There are 4 external patch pockets - 2 on the breast area and 2 on the front waist area. The left and right breast pockets have a vertical pleat. They also have scalloped pocket flaps. The large waist patch pockets are rectangular with rectangular pocket flaps. There is an opening between the 2 right hand patch pockets into an internal change pocket. On the back of the tunic there is a single vent 200 mm in length from the belt at the waist to the tail of the tunic. A belt made of the same cloth as the tunic, is sewn to the back of the garment. The right end of the belt has 3 pairs of holes. The left end of the belt has a 60 mm wide brass buckle with 2 buckle pins. Just behind the buckle is a snap fastener to secure the point of the belt after buckling. There are 4 brass buttons down the right hand opening of the tunic matched with button holes down the left side of the opening. There are brass buttons securing each of the patch pockets and snap fasteners on each corner of the scalloped flaps on the breast pockets.
The tunic is fully lined with cotton denim. There is a large internal pocket with a flap and button on the right breast inside the lining. Below this is a smaller internal pocket in the lining. There is an internal pocket in the lining of the left breast. The badge on the left breast is a pilot's badge. The medal line under the wings is D.S.O./BAR DFC DFM 1939-45 Star. On the pocket underneath is the gold Pathfinder badge. There are 3 rings on each sleeve. The rings are black tape, light blue tape and black tape. Each of the rings has the same sequence. On each shoulder is the "New Zealand" badge. This wool badge is sewn onto each shoulder.
