Description
1. Record: 7-inch, 45 rpm, EP vinyl record with brown label. "TEAL Presents Songs of the South Seas".
Side 1: 'Patu Patu Ake' (Eddie Lund), 'Pokarekare' (Piripata) and 'Minoi Minoi' (Teumata).
Side 2: 'Isa Lei' (Caten) and 'Waltzing Matilda' (Patterson Cowan). The label also has details of the record company and a copyright warning on each side.
2. Cover: Square, cardboard case sealed on 3 sides. The cover is green and white. Underneath the title (TEAL presents Songs of the South Seas), is the profile of a woman with long, dark hair, nude and up to her hip in water putting a white flower in her hair. To the right of the image is a list of countries and the songs associated with it: Tahiti - Patu Patu Ake; New Zealand - Pokarekare; Samoa - Minoi Minoi; Fiji - Isa Lei; Australia - Waltzing Matilda. In the bottom, right corner is a logo saying "TEAL 21 Years". On the reverse, is a list of songs with a description, the record company's details and a copyright warning. Written in the top left corner in pen is "ELECTRA".
Brief History
This record was commissioned by TEAL to celebrate and promote the airline's 21st anniversary in 1961. It was produced by Astor Recording & TV Studios Ltd based in Auckland. The record contains music from several South Pacific nations (Tahiti, New Zealand, Samoa, Fiji, Australia) which were some of the airline's destinations.
