Description
Standards manual for museum signage, as developed by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
"Currently, the [Metropolitan Museum of Art]'s labels and signs feature a variety of typefaces, type sizes, and color contrasts, and are executed in several kinds of materials - sometimes in combinations that can be difficult to read and understand. In order to be most effective, however, labels and signs must be legible and comprehensible to the broadest range of visitors, which includes individuals of all ages and abilities. With this imperative in mind, the Museum set out to develop standards to use in the production and installation of labels and signs.
The Standards Manual for Signs and Labels in the Metropolitan Museum of Art is the culmination of this effort." - introduction
