Brief History
The Zoom 518 Super 8 is Canon’s first Super 8 movie camera, launched in response to the Super 8 film developed by Eastman Kodak in 1965. Super 8mm film with its larger image and easy to handle cartridge quickly became very popular in the amateur and home movie market. As Super 8 film was not compatible with regular 8mm film cameras and projectors, other manufacturers had to quickly bring out new models of cameras and projectors in order to remain relevant.
