Brief History
This wagon was made in 1923 for the haulage of equipment during the construction of the Mangahao Power Station in Manawatu. It was made of Australian hardwood and has iron banded wheels. It was made to carry extremely heavy loads and would have worked in very difficult conditions.

The construction of the power station was extremely dangerous. Water is channelled very steeply above the power station - the drop is more than five times that of Niagara Falls. There was a huge risk of flood during the construction, and five people died during tunnelling. When the Power station opened in 1924 it was the largest in the country.
