Brief History
VHS-C is a compact VHS cassette, launched in 1982 by JVC, developers of the VHS format for video cassettes and recorders. The more compact VHS-C cassettes were developed for use in camcorders, allowing these to be correspondingly smaller than earlier video cameras. The smaller cassette was based on the same film format as in a VHS cassette, and when inserted into an adapter cassette it could be played in a standard VHS recorder.
