Cutaway cable on rimu base of the first telegraph cable laid in Devonport on 28 Sept. 1953; 18 layers exposed; it appears to have a wax coating. A small silver plaque mounted on the rimu base reads "PT. RESOLUTION/DEVONPORT/LAID/28. SEPT. 1953"
