Description
Endean Building, from Quay Streets, with fire appliances sending two streams of water up towards the windows on the third floor. One is in the left foreground with a group of figures around the hose and appliance. The other hose is in the mid right background, part way up Queen Street. There is an extended ladder to the right of the water being pumped onto the fire. Hoses lie across the tram tracks in the foreground. There are groups of shadowy figures standing on the road watching the building and the fire fighters. On the side of the building, at second floor level, is a sign for London Dental. Along the ground floor awning are a series of signs advertising a range of businesses. They include Keldrum, Travelling rugs, bags and trunks, The Clobbery, Hatters, mercers, clothiers & outfitters and Kaiapoi rugs. In the lower right is what looks like a tent pitched on the road. In the right background are the row of shops extending up Queen Street.
