Description
2-wheeled gig on rubber tyred wheels, finished with a tinted varnish. Ironwork painted grey. Gig, horse-drawn, rubber tyred. Light varnished finish. 3/4 shaft, 3 springs modified to give softer ride. Plate on back. This gig demonstrates a major development with the use of rubber tyres instead of steel tyres. The passengers had a much smoother (and quieter) ride. Note the 'butterfly wings' construction on the body.
Brief History
This 2-wheeled gig was specially built for the Waikato Winter Show about 1920 and is made of Mangero timber. This gig demonstrates a major development with the use of rubber tyres instead of steel tyres. The passengers had a much smoother (and quieter) ride.
