Description

Strap Hand Hanger from the Last Tram Auckland 1956. Leather strap with a metal handle attached. Metal handle covered with a red bakelite and engraved with "Last Tram / Auckland / Transport / Board". Loops at either end of straphanger.

If you look carefully at the bakerlite portion of the strap hanger, you should find the manufactures name Rocco. When the leather broke, new leather was threaded through the handle portion. Used in many of Auckland's later trams such as Big Cars 1929- Class and 1930-class and Streamliners 1935-class and 1937-class when new.
