Description
Black and white print shows loco stationary under steam.
Post World War 2 and into the 1950s Auckland central goods yard had multiple shunting locos working at once scattered around the extensive yard. Because of staff shortages, to allow the Yardmasters to be able to identify which loco was which, letters of the alphabet were painted on the steam dome. It was repeated around the dome in 4 places. This loco has the letter S painted onto the dome.
