Description
Metal rectangular meter coloured grey. Front of meter is hinged with a rectangular window to view clock face. Front surface has an engraved diamond pattern. Front is held in place with a screw clasp. Interior contains a brass-coloured clock face and mechanisms. 3 hands project from top and bottom centre of clock face, reading "IN" and "OUT". This time switch was made in c.1920s. This mechanism is a clock driven by an electrically wound spring. At a set time the clock mechanism operates a switch fitted to a 24 hour solar dial. The clock winds itself every 8 hours by means of a small electric motor. These mechanisms were commonly used to switch street lighting on at dusk and off at dawn.
