Description
Highside Wagon - L6. This is an early style of wrought iron highside wagon. Large rectangular metal box with small hinge down door on sides, latches at top. Wooden board floor. Metal handle and step at ends.
Brief History
This is one of 266 L 6 type Iron Highside wagons built in approximately 1890 by the New Zealand Railways. It was fitted with coil springs and was distinguished by Reversed Channel Headstocks. Some of these wagons had raised sides and ends and most had wooden floors like MOTAT's example, but some were fitted with steel floors.
