Brief History
Wagon K 448 was built in 1905 as a general purpose, covered goods wagon and was one of a batch of 32 K 6 series built between 1897 and 1923. This wagon was possibly used to convey funerary coffins to Glen Eden and subsequently to Waikamete Cemetery. It was written off in 1949 and became a non-revenue on service vehicle (E-2312), eventually allocated to the Signals and Electrical Inspector at Taumaranui. It was finally given the number E-928 under the Traffic Monitoring System.

The restoration of this object saw MOTAT Rail receive its first award for wagon restoration from the Federation of Rail Organizations of New Zealand in Westport, June 2005. It is in service on the Western Springs Railway.
