Brief History
This type 1928 model "Southern Cross" Leyland lorry was in service from the 13th September 1928 until 1962. It was used as a winch wagon for the erection of poles and also for putting cable into duct lines.

On the 21st August 1951 it was fitted with submarine cable winch and its powerful motor and low gearing made it a very effective unit. It was used successfully to pull cable across Shoal Bay and to bring the share section of the Compac Cable at Muriwai Beach 17 May 1962.

This vehicle was presented to MOTAT on behalf of the New Zealand Post Office by Messrs E. P. Sanders (Regional Engineer) and G. C. Hobson (Chief Postmaster) Auckland on 26th July 1974.
