Description
Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit Medal and associated items. Awarded to J. Les Munro CNZM, DSO, QSO, DFC, JP.
Object consists of the medal case, case insert for medal, Medal on ribbon, Spare ribbon and spare hook for ribbon, and instruction card on how to wear the medal.
1. Medal Case
Black leatherette case with gold gilt border on top and inscribed "C.N.Z.M". Hinged lid with inside top lined in white silk with maker's name inscribed "Thomas Fattorini / Since 1827 England"
2. Medal and Ribbon
The medal is a gold and white enamel cross with curved edges bearing at its centre the coat of arms of New Zealand within a green enamel ring bearing the motto "FOR MERIT / TOHU HIRANGA", topped by a royal crown. A Hook attaches the medal to a red neck ribbon. The ribbon has red cotton loops at one end and a hook at the other end to enable the holder to wear it.
3. Additional Ribbon
Ribbon is red textile with hook attached to one end and a metal loop attached to the other.
4. Spare Hook
Small metal hook, gold/bronze in colour, Oval.
5. Instruction Card
Rectangular piece of white card, Black printed text, double sided. Carries instructions on how the bearer should wear the Order and the bearers obligations.
6. Medal Case Insert
Rectangular piece of card covered with black velvet with cushioning on top and impression for medal to sit into. Cut out at top edge for ribbon. Black silk loop at upper edge of left side to aid its removal out of case.
