Description
Hand coloured collodion positive or ambrotype showing a young seated man with dark hair that has been brushed back.

The image shows from the waist upwards. He is wearing a dark jacket with a white shirt with a large dark coloured bow tie. Two shiny buttons are at the top of the shirt. A white cuff show at the end of the right jacket sleeve. A gold coloured watch chain hangs over his front to the left. The man is looking towards the viewer. Behind his left shoulder is the rounded end of the chair in which he is seated. Under his right arm is the end of a table? Encased in a dark brown leather case with a faded brown front cover that has series of dotted rectangles and plain rectangles on it, hinged, with a central brass hook that latches onto a hoop on the upper edge.

The inside of the case has a red coloured plush lining that has a floral pattern of four flowers in the middle surrounded by a circle of flowers and leaves. There is a thin gold coloured pattern of flowers and leaves along the outer edges of both sides. The image is within a plain gold coloured metal mat that has curved corners. The rectangular inner edge is metal impressed with what looks like a repeating curve pattern. The rectangular outer edge is feels like leather and is red coloured.
