Description
Compass belonging to Air Chief Marshal Sir Keith Park.

Part 1: Grey-painted box with a hinged lid on the top. A ribbed, silver, plastic strap is connected on either side of the box which has been snapped in two. The lid is held shut with a small hinge. Stamped on the front of the box is the text, "TYPE 06A / DELICATE INSTRUMENT / TO BE HANDLED / WITH GREAT CARE". On the reverse of the text is, "DELICATE INSTRUMENT / TO BE HANDLED / WITH GREAT CARE". Printed on the top of the lid is the text, "GLASS / WITH CARE". Hand-written is, "K. PARK". On the inside of the lid is an illegible purple ink stamp. There are two felt covered wooden blocks inside the lid to hold the compass in place. Inside the box is a metal plate for the compass to sit in an upright position. There is black foam attached to the sides to support the compass.

Part 2: Black hand-held compass. The compass has a black handle, with a small silver sliding dial, and the compass positioned at the top. There is a small protruding screw driver insert around the base of the compass. A glass plate covers the top of the compass. Around the edge of the plate is the text, "TYPE 06A / APT / No33632 / [arrow]". On one end is a protruding metal stand with a magnifying glass and a small circular, adjustable hinge on either side of this. Held inside is the compass itself which is decorated with various measurements.
